The aim of this programme is to identify, consider and gain a greater understanding of existing procedures with stopped vehicles and capacity of highways within National Road Authorities (NRAs).

This research programme will examine the following two subtopics:

  1. Preventing collisions with stopped vehicle in a live traffic lane
  2. Increasing capacity of highway without compromising road safety.

Following an open Call between 20 December 2019 and 15 April 2020, the Programme Executive Board subsequently selected one successful project.

SHADAR – Stopped vehicle Hazards – Avoidance, Detection and Response

Project Partners: Mott MacDonald (United Kingdom, coordinator), MAP traffic management (Netherlands), Navtech Radar (United Kingdom), Factum (Austria), Chiltech (United Kingdom).

Project results:

A supplementary Call 2019(2) on Safe Smart Highways (the second subtopic) was opened on 21 September 2020 and closed on 8 December 2020. The Programme Executive Board subsequently selected one successful project.

SAFEPATH - SAFE caPAcity Highways
